Change Notice: BX-105SP

In an effort to continuously improve the quality and performance of our UN packaging, we occasionally must make changes to the specifications and usage instructions. This notice is to inform you that the following changes have been made to BX-105SP (PK-105SP, PK-GLG28IN) once current stock with UN Marking 4GV/X12.9/S/**/USA/+ AA8431 runs out.

  1. The cushioning distances are now 3.85” on the top, 2.5” on the bottom, and 1.7” on the sides.
  2. The clear tape required for closure of this packaging has changed from 3M #305 48mm wide clear tape to 3M #375 48mm wide clear tape. This change to a stronger tape caused the box to perform better in drop tests, resulting in a more secure packaging.

PHMSA Update
Finally . . . HM-215N

Final Rule HM-215N

At long last, HM-215N is officially in place. The Department of Transportation was published in the Federal Register on Thursday, March 30, 2017. This much-anticipated final rule harmonizes the 49 CFR regulations with the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods—Model Regulations (UN Model Regulations), International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code), and the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (ICAO Technical Instructions).

Some of the Notable Changes from HM-215N Include:

New entries in the hazardous materials table (HMT) including:

  • UN3527 Polyester Resin Kit, solid base material
  • UN3528 Engine, internal combustion, flammable liquid powdered or Machinery, internal combustion, flammable liquid powered
  • UN 3529 Engine, internal combustion, flammable gas powered or Engine, fuel cell, flammable gas powered or Machinery, internal combustion, flammable gas powered or Machinery, fuel cell, flammable gas powered
  • UN 3530 Engine, internal combustion or Machinery, internal combustion

Amended Proper Shipping names

UN 3151, Polyhalogenated biphenyls, liquid or Polyhalogenated terphenyls, liquid and

UN 3152, Polyhalogenated biphenyls, solid or Polyhalogenated terphenyls, solid by adding “Halogenated monomethyldiphenylmethanes, liquid” and “Halogenated monomethyldiphenylmethanes, solid”

New Special provisions including:

Change Notice: PK-1GRPC

Dear Valued Customer,

In an effort to continuously improve the quality and performance of our UN packaging, we occasionally must make changes to the specifications and usage instructions. This notice is to inform you that the following changes have been made to PK-1GRPC.

  1. The Box in this kit will be changing from the BX-115 to BX-115N once current stock runs out. This change adds 3/8” depth to the box making the dimensions of the new box 6.3125″ x 6.3125”x 12.375”.
  2. The clear tape required for closure of this packaging has changed from 3M #305 48mm wide clear tape to 3M #375 48mm wide clear tape. This change to a stronger tape caused the box to perform better in drop tests, resulting in a more secure packaging.

Lithium Battery Labels as of Feb 1, 2017

UPDATE: The download link has been updated to current regulatory standards for August 1, 2017.

Both 49 CFR and TDG are expecting to harmonize lithium battery labels into the regulations; however, both regulations are pending. HM-215N (49 CFR) was recalled, and will not be reissued for at least 60 days.

Transport Canada has not provided an ETA on the harmonization.

In an effort to continuously improve the quality and performance of our UN packaging, we occasionally must make changes to the specifications and usage instructions. This notice is to inform you that the following changes have been made to BX‐15SP.

  1. The clear tape required for closure of this packaging has changed from 3M #305 48mm wide clear tape to 3M #375 48mm wide clear tape. This change to a stronger tape caused the box to perform better in drop tests, resulting in a more secure packaging.
  2. The minimum cushioning distance from top/bottom has changed from 2” to 4”and the minimum cushioning distance on the sides has changed from 2” to 1”.
